Ford recently unveiled a “pursuit rated” version of the F-150 dubbed the Police Responder. This special F-150 is outfitted for use by law enforcement departments and represents a first of its kind.
The Police Responder is built for power, speed, and all-terrain off-roading capabilities. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine allows for speeds of up to 100 mph, 375 horsepower, and 470 lb.-ft. of torque, all backed by a police-calibrated braking system. The all-terrain tires are positioned on a 145-inch wheelbase and powered by a 10-speed transmission, making the Police Responder an ideal vehicle for police departments in rural areas, border patrol agencies and fish and game authorities.
The best-in-class interior volume comfortably seats five and a 240-amp alternator is in place to address radio, siren and other electrical needs. The exterior is built from a high-strength, military-grade aluminum-alloy body atop a steel frame.
But the F-150 Police Responder is just the latest in Ford’s dedication to our nation’s law enforcement agencies. This specialized vehicles joins a fleet of Ford cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans designed specifically for police use. The Crown Victoria and the Explorer have been staples of police departments for years and Ford recently added a modified version of the Fusion to give police departments an eco-friendly sedan option.
This adoption is set to save police departments thousands of dollars per year because the large battery will allow officers to idle with the engine off while keeping power for electronics turned on.
